Notes

I’m listing all my little ornaments here as I don’t want to individually list them. I didn’t do the knitted garland. I’m hanging them on a fake pine garland we have over a set of bookshelves.

All patterns done as per pattern unless noted below. I’m using various 4ply yarns left over from socks. I have lots. I’m also pretty much ignoring the recommended needle sizes and just knitting with a 2.25mm needle and using whatever size crochet hook is handy, because I’m too lazy to cross the room and open the box of needles/hooks.

One thing I have been doing on the ornaments when possible is to use one of the yarn ends/tails as the yarn to make the crochet hanging chain… just one less end to weave in.

Day 4 -- Tree -- Found a little star, but omitted additional ornaments. Managed to find 3 similar greens in the oddments bin. Okay, it wasn’t that hard. I have 30 different greens in there.

Day 5 -- Snowflake -- I tried. I really did. I’m just not fond of knitted snowflakes (someone, please change my mind on that!) so I’m going to sub in a crochet snowflake instead. I’m also not keen on sewing on that many buttons to straighten out the ornament. And I’d have to buy buttons. My inner Scrooge isn’t on with that.

Day 6 -- Stocking -- I added the beads in as I was knitting using the crochet hook method.

Day 7 -- Mouse -- I picked up the stitches for the ears and knitted them on instead of sewing them on.

Day 8 -- Paper Chain -- To avoid so much seaming, I’m doing a 4 stitch I-cord and grafting the ends instead of doing it as per the pattern. As a result, I’ll have the knit side out. Seriously, I’m that lazy.

Day 9 -- Angel -- I didn’t bother with the eyes, etc. I also got overly excited and missed some of the pattern instructions for the dress, so mine is a slightly different shape… but it is still dress shape, so it’s fine.

Day 12 -- Santa -- I didn’t have anything suitable for the beard so I did a loop stitch for the beard. If the ornament had been bigger I’d have used the same yarn I used on my Jultomten.

Day 15 -- Heart -- I omitted the button at the centre of the heart.

Day 17 -- Bauble -- Didn’t add the extra ornamentation… just don’t have anything glitzy.

Day 19 -- Cracker -- Omitted the bead/brad/button at the centre.

Day 20 -- Icicle -- Didn’t have a dangle bead so I put on a bell. A small one. Which, apparently, is invisible in the photo.

Day 21 -- Star -- Omitted beads/buttons. I’m sensing a theme.

Day 22 -- Bells -- An operator error produced an oddly shaped second bell. Apparently, the operator can’t count after 8pm. Decided it was for the best interest of the family to have a single bell.

Even though there were a few mods and such, I really enjoyed this project. I’d do it again in a heartbeat. I’m really happy with my garland, and look forward to putting it up again next year.
