I started this scrap yarn shawl project.
I am using all kinds of leftover, mainly cotton yarn, paired with a lace mohair blend from a cone.
First I crochet many granny squares, crochet them together and after that used a 150cm long knitting needle (3mm) to continue building this project. I took up lots of stitches along the wider side of the granny squares and started knitting garter stitch. I decrease on each row, at the beginning and at the end of the row.
I am knitting only garter stitch, alternating the scrap yarns every 5cm or so. The mohair wool stays the same all the time. I just switch out the cotton yarns as I go.
I decided to add another stripe of granny squares. I had to cast off the whole project and then crochet the granny squares. After sewing the grannies together, I sewed them to the whole shawl. After that I took up stitches again with my knitting needle, knitting a few more centimeters of garter stitch. After the final cast off, I crochet all around the shawl.
