I haven’t steam blocked it yet, but it’s so cute!
A friend had posted a picture of her baby boy in this outfit, so of course I had to see if I could find a replica pattern. Surprise, Misha and Puff sells the pattern on their website! So smart.
The pattern itself is pretty darn easy to follow. I casted on one afternoon and finished seaming in ends the following morning. I didn’t really NEED the break from winter-season knitting, but I hadn’t knit our baby girl something yet (she’s due to arrive February!), so I was motivated. :)
There are a couple things I have noted to do differently next time.
-
I’ll mark the center stitches for front and back upon casting on, that way I don’t have to find them later.
-
When binding off stitches for the leg openings, I’ll hold an extra piece of string or yarn in another color, so that I can see those exact stitches a little better when picking them back up. Not a big deal at all, just something I like to do.
-
When doing the straps, I think I’ll slip the last stitch as opposed to the first. Just a personal preference as I usually slip the last when I’m knitting flat, and I kept wanting to do that when I was knitting these straps.
I have a couple ideas for personal changes too, depending on who I’m knitting for.
-
Legs: Ribbed legs are cute. Could try something fancy like Picot Bind Off at edge or even a Feather-and-Fan type pattern.
-
Bib: Can incorporate any knit/purl pattern, geometric shapes, the shape of an animal, a letter, whatever here! Really customizable area.
-
Straps: If I change the bib, the straps can be whatever I want - Garter, Moss Stitch, etc.
I can’t wait to try this pattern again with different fabrics, colors, and sizes! This one is a 0-6 month size and I imagine I’ll pair it with warmer clothes - leggings and a long sleeved onesie. I’m definitely going to make her a larger one for summer, maybe in a bamboo cotton blend.
The only thing I wish I could change it making the bottom with snaps so it could be easily opened for diaper changes. As of right now I can’t figure out how I’d do that.
