YO - yarn over
CH - chain
SS - slip stitch
SC - single crochet
DC - double crochet
HTC (half treble crochet); YO 2x, insert hook into next stitch; YO and draw up a loop (5 loops on hook); YO and crochet through 2 loops; YO and crochet through remaining 3 loops
VS (V stitch) - in same space, DC, chain 1, DC
CVS (corner V stitch) - in same space, DC, chain 3, DC
CL – (3 or 4 DC CLuster) - (YO, draw up a loop; crochet through 2 loops) in each of the next (3 or 4) DC, YO and crochet through remaining loops
PATTERN (repeat section in bold):
ROW 1: CH 5. (counts as center ring, 1st DC & CH 2); in 1st CH (center ring)
(DC, CH 2) (7x);
SS into 3rd stitch of 1st CH 5 (8 DC - CH2 spaces)
ROW 2: SS into first chain-2 space; CH 2, 2 DC in same space; CH 1;
in next chain-2 space (3 DC, C1) (7x);
SS in top of 1st CH 2
ROW 3: CH 2, 2 DC in next DC, 1 DC in 3rd DC;
CH 2, DC in next DC, 2 DC in 2nd DC, DC in 3rd DC (7x);
YO, draw up a loop into top of first CH 2 and DC (creates last “CH-2” space), SS into CH-2 space
ROW 4: CH 5 (counts as DC, chain 3), DC in same CH-2 space (1st corner V stitch), CH 2;
CL in next 4 DC, CH 2,
VS in next chain-2 space, CH 2;
CL in next 4 DC, CH 2,
CVS in next chain-2 space, CH 2 (3x);
Continue pattern; SS in 2nd CH of beginning CH 5; SS into center of corner V-stitch.
ROW 5: CH 3 (counts as 1st HTC), 2 HTC, CH 3, 3 HTC in same space, CH 2;
DC in next CH 2 space, CH 2;
3 DC, CH 3, 3 DC in next VS, CH 2;
skip next CH-2 space, DC in following CH 2 space, CH 2;
3 HTC, CH 3, 3 HTC in CVS, CH 2 (3x);
Continue pattern; SS into top of beginning CH 3.
ROW 6: CH 2 (counts as 1st DC), 2 DC in 2nd HTC, DC in 3rd HTC, CH 2;
CVS, CH 2; skip 1st HTC, 2 DC in next HTC (2X - see note);
CH 2 DC in next DC, CH 2;
CL in next 3 DC, CH 3,
SS in CH-3 space, CH 3,
CL in next 3 DC, CH 2;
DC in next DC, CH 2;
skip top of 1st HTC, 2 DC in next HTC (2x), CH 2,
CVS in CH-3 space,
skip 1st HTC, 2 DC in next HTC (2x), CH 2 (3x);
Continue pattern; to end row, YO, draw a loop into top of first CH 2 and DC (creates last CH-2 space), SS into CH-2 space
NOTE: Rather than trying to find the top loop in the first HTC, it is much faster and easier to skip it and crochet twice in the 2nd loop.
ROW 7: “CH 4 (counts as 1st DC, CH-2);
CL in next 4 DC, CH 2;
(3 HTC, CH 3, 3 HTC) in CVS,

(DC in next CH-2 space, CH 2) 2x;
CL in next 4 DC, CH 2;
(3 HTC, CH 3, 3 HTC) in CVS;
CL in next 4 DC, CH 2 (3x);
Continue pattern; YO, loop into second loop of CH 4 and DC (creates last CH-2 space), SS into CH-2 space.
ROW 8: CH 3 (counts as 1st DC, CH 1),
DC in next CH-2 space, CH 1,
DC in next CH-2 space, CH 2;

CH 2, CL in the next 3 HTC, CH 2,
CVS in corner CH-3 space, CH 2,
CL in next 3 DC, CH 2 (3x)
Continue pattern; SC into 2nd loop of beginning chain (creates lastCH-1* space), SS into CH-1 space.
ROW 9: CH 3 (counts as 1st DC); 2 DC in same space, CH 1;
skip next CH-1 space; 3 DC in next CH-1 space, CH 1;
