Test-knit for andreakr. Her cardigan is this beautiful, drapey silk wonder. Since I just made 2 sweaters in a row that require delicate handling, I want something I can abuse, so it’s superwash wool all the way for me. I expect the end result will be quite different from hers, but hopefully awesome anyhow.
- I used a crochet provisional cast-on as listed in the pattern for the back piece, and JMCO for the two front pieces and the pockets. I found JMCO to be far easier. I used two US 5 circs, and co in MC- remember that once your co is complete you’ve essentially got three rows of stockinette on your needles now, I completed 9 more in MC and left it on the needle, then went back to the other needle, and knit one row in CC (garter row for the turn in the hem) and 12 rows in the CC in stockinette. Then I knit in MC the first stitch on each needle (MC in front, CC in back) together to finish the hem and create the first row of the body (as listed in pattern)
Back:
-
missed the first decrease
-
2nd decrease done at row 33 (18 rows from where the first decrease was supposed to have been done)
-
3rd and 4th done at 16 row intervals
-
Wow. I shouldn’t knit after taking Ambien. Okay- I made the section below the waist a bit longer than necessary, so I’m compensating above the waist before the armholes just a bit. The overall length will remain unchanged, the narrowest part of the cardigan will simply be an inch or two higher than the schematics show. I’ll replicate the same mistakes on the front section.
-
blocked to 19” at hem and widest part of shoulders, 17” at narrowest part of waist, 19.5” from hem to arm notch, 25” (ish) from hem to top edge, 5.5” arm hole
Left/Right Front pieces:
-
used JMCO as my provisional cast-on in MC (love this so much, no picking up stitches)
-
blocked to measurements listed in pattern
-
knit 4 rows after armhole b/o for a body length of 18” on each piece
Facing:
- Picking up and knitting stitches for the front facings took me about 45 minutes, and I’m averaging about 10 minutes per row of knitting. I did knit 3 out of every 4 rows.
Sleeves: (heavily modified)
-
My arms are considerably longer than average, and my shoulders wider. This is a modified drop-sleeve construction, though I don’t expect it will drop much on me, but rather will sit right at the edge of my shoulder.
-
Drop is approx. 1” over the edge of my shoulder.
-
No ribbing or garter ridges, the entire sleeve is in stockinette.
-
Began sleeves at the cuff, with the same knit in hem as the body and facings, using JMCO. I joined to knit in the round after the turn row. I’m increasing every 18 rows, instead of every 12. (Did not do jogless stripes, probably should have.) Final 9 rows done back and forth, prior to joining to the body, and seamed after. I oriented the sleeve so that the jogs in the stripes are toward the body, as hidden as possible.
-
Total sleeve length prior to joining to the body: 23”
