Helping my church’s youth director with a night of teens loom-knitting hats to give out at the local soup kitchen. Making a sample up now. :)
Using 2 strands of yarn held together.
Crochet cast on. (Left to right, and I worked this way through the entire hat) Crochet Cast On video to help you.
Brim: knit a row, purl a row for approximately 2.5” (the kind of knit and purl where you pull your working yarn through the loop on the peg, lift the stitch off the peg, and place the new loop on the peg). Knit Stitch and Purl Stitch videos to help you.
Hat Body:
First 2-3 rows of that flat knit stitch (lay working yarn above loop on peg, lift loop up, over, and off loop). This seems to help better define the brim from the body. Flat Stitch video to help you.
Remaining rows, I wrapped each peg, one at a time, in an “e” wrap (well, upsidedown e, since I work left to right).
I used the purple Knifty Knitter Loom that was sold separately. It seems about the size of the 3rd largest loom in the 4-pack they sell, except the pegs are a bit closer together.
Modeled on Grace, who really has the head of a small child (and she’s a little light on brains, but she’s quiet), so it doesn’t pouf out in back on an average adult. On my 23” head, it’s quite perfect.
(After the photo shoot, I turned around to find Grace had passed out. She must have gotten a little “light-headed.” sigh Models.)
