Made with acrylic scraps from several brands of yarn found at big box stores, all worsted weight.
Each square has 13 rows, with rows 12 & 13 always being Aran (from Red Heart Super Saver).
Doing 2 color orders:
“A” squares will have r1-5 random colors, one per row. R6 is Aran. R7-11 random colors. R12&13, Aran.
“B” squares will have r1-6 random colors, r7 Aran, r8-11 colors, r12&13 Aran.
The squares will be arranged with these two alternating squares.
Using an H hook, and the finished squares measure about 15.5” ea.
I crocheted the backsides of each square by holding 2 squares face to face, then sc from one of the ch2 at each corner--only the outermost strand from each square--all the way down to the 1st ch2 from the opposite corners. Then I lined up the other two squares and repeated (so now all 4 are crocheted together along one side). Then I repeated that down the other center line.
After that, I sc around the outside with yellow yarn, then again with purple. I fudged the corners however they looked best (multiple sc in the corners to make a gently crisper edge). Then I sc in the Aran to make the transition back to granny clusters look neater.
To make the granny cluster row, I just used the last granny row below as a visual guide, and placed them about every 2-3 stitches, depending how they fell.
Then I saw a picture on Pinterest of a blanket with a simple (2dc, ch2, 2dc) in each granny “hole.” I treated the corners like this: 2dc, ch2, 4dc, ch2, 2dc), and I liked it.
This is going aside for my future grandbabies. I’m slightly obsessed about that now that my oldest son is getting married in June. :D
