Making my “famous” Ugly Blanket lapghan for a fundraiser at church at the end of April. :)
I think the hook is a “P” but it isn’t marked. I one time marked it with a Sharpie, but that wore off. Next time, Sharpie and then a couple coats of clear nail polish?
The yarns I’m working with are random worsted balls given to my church’s charity crochet & knit group. We’re raising money for our annual Family Camp excursion to upstate NY. The money (100%) goes into our scholarship fund so that teens and families who otherwise couldn’t afford the trip can go and enjoy 3 lovely days in the mountains!
I do hope someone will buy it.
It was purchased by a sweet little girl who loved it yet only had $10 left to spend Now that’s a sweet deal. :)
Note about the name “Ugly Blanket”--
A few years ago, I had bought tons of yarn and made tons and tons of scarves as gifts. Absolute tons. I made a scarf for, like, everyone in town. LOL
As a result, I had a slew of yarn leftovers. A ton of yarn, but nothing I could really make one definitive project with. But I am a thrifty girl and don’t waste. So I thought, “I am going to make myself a large lapghan for ME!”
I decided not to fuss with patterns and squares and matchy-matchy colors. I would make this UGLY--holding 2 strands of any random color worsted…single crochet…size P hook…and just make a thick, chunky, ugly thing, ending and beginning no matter where the yarn ended up. I called it my “ugly blanket.”
I started working on it and it was indeed ugly. But I loved it! I’d look at it and say, “Oh, there’s the yarn I used for Aunty’s scarf! And there’s Gramma’s!” It was cool.
One day, just as I was finishing, my youngest son walks in and says, “Well, now I want an Ugly Blanket.” (sigh) So I made him one. Then my other son wanted one, Then 2 teen nieces. Then my husband. Then I made one for a teen friend, then another friend, and another. It was FUN and I loved that people loved them!!! :D
Pretty soon, I was out of leftovers and had to buy yarn. But I always picked up the most awful colors on clearance racks, or thrift stores, or tag sales.
Now, I haven’t made one of these in a year or so. I just got interested in other projects. But then this fundraiser came up…and here we go again! I’m making my “famous” Ugly Blanket!
