My friend (hismolly here on Ravelry) saw this Red Heart pattern on Pinterest, but didn’t know how to knit, so she just crocheted up one. I thought that was a good idea, even though I can also knit, and I whipped some up last night.
Here’s what I did (I crochet loose, so keep that in mind):
Using a G and some leftover worsted weight yarn, I chained 12 and single crocheted for 25 rows (for the basket body). Then I chained 24 and slip stitched back down to make the handle. Then I sewed up the sides of the basket, sewed on the handle, and turned them out so the sewing was on the inside.
For the yarn balls, I made small balls from tinfoil and wrapped them in leftover worsted weight yarn, securing the end with a dab of hot glue. I then glued 4 of the balls into place inside the basket.
For the “knitting needles,” I used 2 toothpicks and 2 wooden beads from the craft store. I slid the bead on first, marked where the toothpick needed to be cut flush with the bead, then took off the bead, trimmed, dabbed a smidge of hot glue on the toothpicks, and slid the bead back on. I secured the sticks inside the yarn bag with another dab of glue.
And now I have to ensure all the annoying strands of hot glue are off the little ornament, as I now see an errant strand in a close-up. Argh!
These are so fun to make, are easy, and are adorable!
