I found a lot of errors in this pattern, some of which Sirdar was already aware of. The sleeves began with the wrong number of chains, and the hat just plain didn’t work out. Sirdar UK is sending me the corrections for the hat and they are working on the sleeves to see what the problem is. It was a very frustrating project because of these errors. However, once they get things straightened out, you should have no problems. Pretty simple actually.

5/2/2011…After numerous emails to Sirdar with no response, I gave up on getting corrections. Here’s the problem: If you were making the long-sleeved version, you begin with a small number of squares and gradually increase to a larger number of squares (for example in size 1 to 2 years, you begin with 19 squares and go to 25 squares). Then you continue on without increasing until you get to the underarm. The 25 squares work out perfectly to fit around the upper arm and to attach to the body of the cardigan. However, the short-sleeved version has you begin with the 19 squares and never increase. You end up with 19 squares to fit around an upper arm that needs 25 squares! To solve this problem, you need to see how many squares the pattern calls for at the underarm in the long-sleeved version for the size you are making and then chain on to begin with THAT number.
