Inspiration is victoriaoc’s Ecru Squircle Blanket, which I first found on Pinterest. I’m using bright tones for the circles and pure white for the background.

19 June 2014: finished piecing together the top, using the join-as-you-go technique in the pattern tutorial. Easy! I’m loving how it’s coming together. Need to add 6-7 rounds of “granny stitch” around the whole blanket, and then a scalloped border. Can’t wait! Am thinking of making a coordinating carseat blanket with the leftover yarn. :-)

24 May 2014: wish i had seen this genius technique before i started the blanket squares: http://21stcenturygirl.net/index.php/granny-squares-how-t....

All squares done now, and inside ends woven in. Photo of 20 blocks shows draft layout. Starting on adding third round of white to each block and connecting them as i go, using the tutorial in the pattern. Excited!

27 April 2014: Update. OMG, I’ve tried so many versions of the circle-granny square, in a few different yarns. Some conclusions: I really didn’t enjoy crocheting with the acrylics, and knowing myself, I’m never going to finish a project with 1,000 ends to weave in. So, I looked for a machine-washable gradient yarn - there aren’t very many! I ended up with Bernat Mosaic, in Psychedelic (rainbow, basically). After trying other granny squares with circles in the middle, I came back to the original “squircle” pattern version, and I’m happy with it. Now, let’s see how many blocks I can get through…
