In order to give the afghan a more finished look, I added side borders that mirror the top and bottom.

Row 1: After binding off the pattern as directed, pick up and knit stitches along one side, right side facing you. You should pick up two stitches per four rows of (main color) stockinette band and two stitches per four rows of (contrasting color) reverse stockinette band.

Row 2: K2, P to last two sts, K2

Row 3: K across

Row 4: K2, P to last two sets, K2

Rows 5-8: K across

Bind off loosely.

Repeat for other side of the afghan.
