Modified basic hat pattern, as following size 3-10 resulted in a hat that was wayyy too small. Had to rework this hat several times in order to get a hat that fit properly; really simple pattern, but not written particularly accurately, in my opinion. Thankfully I had a toddler available to use as a model, or I’d have no idea when I’d struck the correct balance.

-After round 4, added increases by doing 2 dc, dc in next 7 sts, repeated around. Sl st to join round in 2nd chain. This resulted in 54 sts. Still not that big.

-Worked 12 rounds DC, 1 row HDC, 1 row SC.

For topper piece, made following mods:

-Worked base as written until round 3; worked 2 hdc in each st to end up with 40 sts at end of round. Piece was too small, IMO, as written. Tried adding a fourth round, but it became too large, so this was the best solution.

-Worked top of hat to same size - 40 sts - to match base.
