My hubby saw my plan for a mitered square afghan, and said he wanted a sweater like that. He likes color… The closest I could find was the Benedikta pattern from the Noro books. It was too feminine, so I designed a drop shoulder sweater with the same mitered squares. The drop shoulder design elements are from EZ’s Knitting Workshop book.
I also liked the larger color selection of silk garden instead of silk garden lite. I went crazy and ordered lots of different color choices. The ones I don’t use on the sweater, I can use for my afghan.
11/2 - Decided on a muted color #376 for the ribbing and first round of half squares, will use the same for the bottom of the sleaves. Knitted 3 in of 2x2 ribbing and 2 short rows of stockinette in the back to battle “the ride up in the back”
11/6 - The bigger squares in my design (8 in from corner to corner) were too large at the top due to the asymmetry of the stockinette stitch. I added an additional decrease row on the wrong side knit rows, made the square more square.
11/14 - See pic showing the start of the arm hole, split the square while I was knitting it.
12/6 - Decided to do graduated mitered squares on the sleeve. See pattern in pics
12/18 - Sleeves came out 3 ins too short, so I added another row of whole squares
12/21 - Ribbing did not pull in and shoulders stretched too much, adding some elastic thread to the ribbing and some gore tape to the shoulders
