Dec 2018: Done -- with a lot of changes. I’m sorry I don’t have yarn quantities, this was made piecemeal from different knitters.
I took in a vast amount of material from the upper sleeves and shoulders. My recommendation to all sizes is not to re-increase after the waist decreases, just keep the pieces at the same width. I’ve seen this jacket modeled on ~12 different sized women and the shoulders seemed too wide for all of them.
I added shoulder pads to prevent the shoulders from sagging down. Major help -- the embroidery adds a lot of weight to this jacket!
I didn’t prefer the embroidery in Fine Kid, it was too obvious when you didn’t have perfect stitches. No, perfect is not the word -- there’s just too much variation in crochet over bulky material to make it look neat in thin yarn. I used the thick Vogue instead. My friend used Muguet instead, which is thin, but the glitter hides inconsistencies very well.
Your embroidery will significantly change how the jacket fits. Not because you did it too tight (don’t), just because of the added weight and change to the fabric’s drape. Try on often and don’t be afraid to re-seam. If you have too much fabric taken in, mattress stitch the seam you want, machine stitch twice on each piece of excess fabric, then cut near the machine stitching.
I did a small stitch to close the cuffs near the wrist, to make a keyhole effect. It’s just more practical for me to wear if the cuff doesn’t open up -- but I do love how it looks open.
The turquoise version has some embroidery that wasn’t described in the pattern. See those horizontal triple bands? They are outlined with Fine Kid. I tried it with Muguet and thought it darkened them too much in my colorway -- but for the turquoise colorway it really looked divine. Try it!
Nov 2018: I’m finally making this jacket for myself! I’m making the dark blue colorway from the Knitter’s Holiday choices, but replacing Fine Kid Libellule with Fine Kid Marine.
July 2018: I’m excited to be teaching at a luxury knitting retreat at the gorgeous Inn by the Sea in Cape Elizabeth, Maine October 26-29, 2018! The highlight will be learning all the techniques needed to make the Harvey Jacket… AND more!
