So… it’s not quite February and this is my 3rd DRK cast on. Do I have a problem?
My daughter asked me to make her an “ugly” sweater. I have no idea what she was talking about. I dont know what she was talking about. I dont make ugly sweaters, lol. I asked… like a Christmas sweater? No. She described an all-over fair isle design. Ok… like this? I showed her the Shifty on IG. She went
and immediately begged me to make it.
Considering the $400 price tag for the original yarn kit, I was determined to make this sweater for under $100. This yarn is $35 for 5 balls on Amazon. I think it should take about 5 or 6 balls to make the sweater. 3 for the MC and less than 1 for each CC. So about $42 total!! It is 100% merino wool, and very soft. It has a lovely sheen and just barely fuzzy. I hope it holds up. I found that it is a bit splitty, be careful if using sharp needles. I’m pretty happy with it so far.
I’m probably going to lengthen it a bit. She loves cropped shirts and sweaters but it drives me nuts when she wears them, and I’m the creator so I get to choose.

I wasn’t sure I was going to survive those short rows, they were rough. I used a light colored CC just in case it turned out like poo. I’m worried about the gauge again, I cant ever seem to get gauge with these patterns. We will see, I have to do a few more rounds before I can measure.
I wasn’t happy with the lack of contrast in the skeins I was using so I did a bit of skein surgery. I also chose to do a backward loop increase in effort to preserve an even gauge in the increase rows. They are a bit fiddly to knit into, but I think it will look better in the long run.

Separated sleeves last night!! It is gorgeous. She tried it in and it fits perfect. The backward loop increases made the yoke lay flat and no puckering. She decided for a full length, so I’ll just keep knitting until its done!

Bound off the waist with JSSBO. It looks super cute!

Done and blocking!! Just in time, she leaves the day after tomorrow!
Will weave in ends and take pics tomorrow. I ended up making it almost exactly as written except I left off the last big blips repeat at the end of each sleeve. I don’t have a scale to weigh my leftovers, but I ended up using just over 2 balls of the main (2 total for body + 1 sleeve, and then a new skein for the 2nd sleeve) and less than half of each contrast color.
