I have been selected to be a knitter for the Blyth Tall Ship Williams Gansey project!
After doing a few gauge swatches, I have decided to use a US2 needle, which is one of the sizes recommended. My gauge isn’t quite what is recommended (The pattern says 28x36 in 4” and I’m getting 25x40) but I tried going down to a US 1.5 and the resulting fabric was just too dense and the sweater would have been uncomfortable, in my opinion. So I am going along with the US2.

The sweater is coming along and is now, after having finished other pieces with earlier deadlines, my sole focus. I intend to finish it within a month or so.

Tonight I FINALLY finished the body! Yay!! Now on to the really interesting shoulder join! I haven’t ever done a shoulder panel join before. I’m excited to learn this new technique!

I am just 30 rows away from being done with the textured portion of the sleeves. I am doing two at a time, but each on their own individual magic loop needle. I can’t wait to just get to the stockinette portion of the sleeves, hopefully blaze through that, and then finish the neckline and mail it off!

OMG I’m finally done with all the texture sts! Now I have about 65 rows of stockinette and 24 rows of ribbing for each sleeve and then the collar! I’m getting there!

Good god I have finally started the cuff ribbing on the sleeves! I had to knit more rows than written because my row gauge was a little bit off. I lengthened the body in the stockinette section and I have compensated with the sleeves accordingly. Could I finish the sleeves tonight?! I’d love to go to bed with the collar sts picked up!!

I can’t believe it! I just bound off the final stitch!! I have been working on this piece for a year and a half and it’s DONE! I do have to block it and weave in the ends, but I will be mailing it off on Monday just can’t wait. I learned so much on this piece and I can’t wait to hear of it’s journey and ultimate destiny in Blythe. I hope it makes its way to the voyage to Antartica!
And I have a little bit of yarn leftover to make a little something for me to remember the piece by. Probably fingerless gloves. I don’t think I have enough to make an adult hat. It’s phenomenal yarn. It will wear like iron and will last a very long time with proper care. Wow. This feels like the end of a big chapter. Huzzah!!
