So, I am going to try this pattern again. (I won’t be satisfied until I complete this sweater!!! My first “test” efforts were intense and absolutely nothing to show for once done!) It’s been challenging to find a yarn and needles for this. The gauge she suggests is far too big for this as the cables DO NOT pull the design in enough. I don’t know how she got this gauge with an aran yarn and 5mm needles and even if it’s possible, it should be too big! Must be the specific yarn characteristics!?!
I do wish I had the published pattern with a schematic and not just the test pattern but oh well… I’ll figure this out on my own. So I am aiming for a 22 to 23 stitch gauge over moss to achieve the desired 13 1/2” chest measurements.
3.75mm needles should do the trick along with this yummy DK superyak!
Pockets are a must do!

I think my gauge for this is pretty close to where I want/need it now! Yeah! Might have to add a few extra rows for length but that’s Ok by me.
23 st and 30 rows before washing.
hem measures = 15” wide
@ underarms = 14” wide
Length = 13” after 3 repeats of the cable pattern.
I am going to wash it on the needles now just to be sure. I suspect that it’s going to fit smaller after washing… may end up with a size smaller (2-3 yr old) but this works too! (Lucky to have 3 granddaughters ranging in age!)

Not a lot of change in gauge, if any, this time round with this yarn. Must be the smaller needles as I usually knit this on 4.5mm needles.
So started my underarm BO’s after 90 rows of the chart.

Left Front: (Started with this side because there are no button holes!)
- I CO 4 extra stitches, 2 Icord for the button band edge and 2 for width. (This seems to be enough stitches to meet the middle button band to the center of the back panel.)
- Pockets. I added slit pockets on the 15 row of the second repeat and worked it to row 15 on the 3rd repeat of cable chart. (I CO 2 stitches to work in icord up the pocket slit.) Then I CO 24 stitches for the pocket lining and knit 28 rows of moss and then connected this piece to the unworked side of the front for another 28 rows. After 14 rows I decreased 1 stitch EOR for 14 rows.
- Cast off as directed but left the 2 Icord stitches live and will pick those up later for the collar edge. I also cast off one extra stitch on the neck edge twice to make up the stitch count needed for the shoulder.
- Buttons placed on row 15 of ever rep of chart.
Back weighs 66 grams
Left front = 47 grams

Collar:
I picked up fewer stitches and am knitting it on 3.25nm needles. The back of the neck is quite wide for a toddler… it would fit me so fewer stitches, firmer and I may end up crab stitching to prevent the back edge from stretching more. I also picked up the 2 icord stitches from the button bands and continued with icord edging. BO collar in icord as well.
Total weight with the back, 2 fronts and collar = 168 grams.
Sleeves:
Again.. I am CO an even number of stitches so I don’t end up pairing 2 purls and 2 knits all the way up the seam.

Sleeves are done and am working on piecing the sweater together.
Sleeves = 26 grams each
Sweater = 222 grams total.
Just need to sew on the pretty buttons and it’s good to go! Hope it fits her?

My button choice turned out not to work… too big :-(
Oh well, I did find some that worked but they are nowhere near as pretty!
