So my grand niece (3 years old) was “helping” me knit a shawl one day. Hey who among us would mind a few twisted stitches to help encourage a curious mind. She said she wanted a pink shawl.

I make her Christmas outfits every year so started pondering shawls for a 3 year old. I couldn’t think of a good way to keep it on her without worrying about ties, clips, buttons… then I saw this pattern. A cape! Ita perfect. It worked up so lovely I decided to make another but turn it into the skirt of a dress. The top is straightforward just a few rows of seed stitch on 2 separate panels, then join them working in the round with more seed stitch. Then stockinette stitch with a diamond pattern of ours (3 stitches between purls offset from the ones 3 rows before. Then I switched to a darker pink k and worked the cape pattern for the skirt. I’m going to attach a cute piece of pink fabric as an underskirt and make straps for the shoulders (that way she’ll be able to wear the dress for another year or two if she wants). Otherwise her outfit is finished. I can’t wait to see her all dressed up!!
