I have some fingering yarn in my stash I wanted to use for quite a while. Originally I wanted to do some (lots of) socks with it, but right now I am not in the mood for that.
I will try this most beautiful project (here is another example), with some modifications.
First of all I will start with 184 st (I’m medium sized) not 140 st. (140! Gosh!)
I changed the first ribbing section from k1, p1 to k3,p1.
That’s why: firstly I didn’t want the k1, p1 section to be stretched to its limits around my belly - not very flattering - and secondly to make the k1 p1 look more regular I would have to do it in twisted rib - but I don’t like knitting it very much.
On the other hand: starting with 184 stitches will be the right thing for my waist but continuing with this recipe (i.e. adding another 184 st every section) will make the rest of the skirt too big. At least that’s what I fear.
So to change the first section means I’ll have to change the rest as well. That’s what I will do:
Section A: k3, p1; (184 st); 14 cm
Section B: k3, p3; (276 st); 16 cm
Section C: k4, p4; (368 st); 12 cm
Section D: k5, p5; (460 st); 12 cm
Section E: k6, p6; (552 st); 12 cm
Okay, that’s the plan.
18/10/2010: I have done all the knitting right now. This skirt must be blocked to show off the pleats and the width of the fabric. You don’t want to have done all those stitches without any one realizing it, do you? So that’s the next thing I will have to do.
24/10/10: Finished!
Quite happy with the outcome, although I’m not too sure about my choice of colours.
I think next time, if there is a next time, I would use only different shades of grey.
This was a stash down project.
22/02/2011: Shkitty created a ravelry link for this project. It’s in japanese only but has a photo tutorial which clearly shows how to work a project like this one. Very helpful!
11/2011:
I’m not sure about the yarn. It’s very drapey, which is good in a garment like this one. But it shows signs of wear, well, which of course is not good. You can’t have both I guess… Still one of my preferred garments.
