Notes

Was inspired by Wolltrunken’s stripy sweaters and want to do my own! Want it really oversized so I will got for the stitch count of my FF Backwards sweaters, but do it from the top down.

Plan to use sockyarn from stash and some Opal Minis I got. Originally planned this as an advent project, but I doubt I can wait so long…

Will also use Elizabeth Zimmermann’s percentage system as a guideline »

Cast on: 172 stitches
Neck opening: 66 stitches, i.e. 53 stitches for each shoulder
Armhole depth: 20 -22 cm

October 13, 2024

Ended up doing 172 stitches, as I want to do a 2 by 2 rib and this fits better. Used a crochet cast on.
Did 1 row of plain stockinette, then started 2 by 2 ribbing.

Did 10 rows of 2 by 2 ribbing, then 2 rows stockinette in the old color, before adding tiny sockyarn scraps first (about 1 - 5 meters each).

October 15, 2024

Put the back stitches on a holder, started the front ribbing in the Opal Abo yarn again.

October 18, 2024

Started the front after the ribbing, want to use 10 g Opal minis for this. I need app. 1.5 gramms for 2 rows, so to use up a whole mini, that would be 14 rows. As I want to knit in the round after the armholes, this will be only 7 rounds all around, so as long as I am still knitting the front separately, I will add a new mini every 7 rows.

October 19, 2024

Finished front, joined front and back, casting on 8 stitches under each arm.

October 21, 2024

Hm - I think I should have made the armhole smaller, as it hits not under the arms directly, but somewhere above the ellbow, due to the width of the body.

Well, I can always sew it up or decrease quickly for smaller arm circumference.

October 21, 2024

I decided not to make a difference in the neck opening, just left it straight, so I can decide which side I want to wear to the front.

October 28, 2024

Reached 50 cm length, I want to get to around 60 cm in total.

November 1, 2024

Started bottom running
Plan to do 20 rounds of ribbing

November 1, 2024

Finished body. Picked up 88 stitches for armhole in grey,
decreased (k2tg every 8th stitch) to 78 stitches in 3d round, will decrease every 10th round or so.

November 3, 2024

Finished first sleeve - knitted 38 cm after pick-up, decreased every 10 rounds to 56 stitches, then added 2 plain rows in red and 20 rounds of ribbing.

November 4, 2024

Finished knitting, gave it a quick bath. Seems huge before dry, but I wanted an oversized sweater after all.

November 8, 2024

Finally took in-wear photos.
Armholes turned out to be ok, not too wide.
Neckline could be a little tighter, I might sew it a little bit closer.
Arms are on the longer side, but I can still pull them up a little - better too long than too short.
Yes, I think I can call this a success.

January 4, 2025

The neckline stretched out a bit, so I decided to sew together 6 stitches on each side to make it tighter.
