The yarn is a souvenir from a weekend trip Justin and I took to Greensboro, NC. I chose the pattern for its ability to show off the tonal yarn.
I found it a bit odd that the written instructions for the pattern’s four charts precede the cast on/setup instructions, but everything is clearly labeled, and the whole thing is only 3 pages (if you ignore the full-page cover photo), so overall it comes out ahead in my book.
Because there are stitch repeats but not row repeats, I found I couldn’t really memorize the pattern. But it wasn’t too difficult, on each eyelet row, to count the number of knit stitches between eyelets and then knit the row and purl the return row before looking at the pattern again.
I ran out of yarn and had to forego the deep, cushy ribbed edge, but I think the simple garter edge works fine.
Things I Did Differently
- Knit with fingering instead of DK
- Cast on and knit with US 6 instead of US 7
- Knit the center stitch normally, which produced evenly sized stitches on every row, instead of knitting through the back loop (tbl), which produced alternating large and small stitches
- Due to yarn limitations, knit only 19 rows of Chart D, then 5 rows of garter stitch
- Completed Elastic Bind-Off using US 8
Things I Would Do Differently
Not a thing—I would happily knit this again!
