Notes

The pattern is written for a child sized collar but no thread size is given. Since I’m using sport weight cotton, this will be much too large for a child. Probably too large for an adult, but I like the Lotus, so we’ll see how this goes, for now. ETA: the collar fits an adult nicely.

The pattern contains a number of errors and omissions so it took some detective work to get it sorted out. Here is my version of what was intended.

No. 150 - Child’s Collar (page 182)

Crazy stitch shell: (3 dc, ch 3, sl st) in next ch-3 space

1: Ch 150, dc in 10th ch from hook OR make 145 fsc, ch 6 and turn, skip 3 sts, dc in next fsc, [ch 3, skip 3 sts, dc in next st] 35 times.
2: Ch 3 and turn, crazy stitch shell in each of next 36 ch-3 sps.
3: Repeat Row 2.

4: Ch 3 and turn, [9 shells, ch 1] 3 times, 9 shells (36 shells).
5: Ch 3 and turn, [9 shells, ch 2] 3 times, 9 shells.
6: Ch 3 and turn, [9 shells, ch 3, sl st in ch-2 sp] 3 times, 9 shells.

7: Ch 3 and turn, [10 shells, ch 1] 3 times, 9 shells (39 shells).
8: Ch 3 and turn, 9 shells, [ch 2, 10 shells] 3 times.
9: Ch 3 and turn, [10 shells, ch 3, sl st in ch-2 sp] 3 times, 9 shells.

10: Ch 3 and turn, 10 shells, ch 1, [11 shells, ch 1] 2 times, 10 shells (42 shells).
11: Ch 3 and turn, 10 shells, ch 2, [11 shells, ch 2] 2 times, 10 shells.
12: Ch 3 and turn, 10 shells, ch 3, sl st in ch-2 sp, [11 shells, ch 3, sl st in ch-2 sp] 2 times, 10 shells.

13: Ch 3 and turn, 11 shells, ch 1, [12 shells, ch 1] 2 times, 10 shells (45 shells)
14: Ch 3 and turn, 10 shells, ch 2, [12 shells, ch 2] 2 times, 11 shells.
15: Ch 3 and turn, 11 shells, ch 3, sl st in ch-2 sp, [12 shells, ch 3, sl st in ch-2 sp] 2 times, 9 shells, 3 dc in next ch-3 sp (45 shells, 3 ch-3 increases).

16: (Point) Ch 1 and turn, 6 shells, 3 dc in next ch-3 sp.
17: Ch 1 and turn, 5 shells, 3 dc in next ch-3 sp.
18: Ch 1 and turn, 4 shells, 3 dc in next ch-3 sp.
19: Ch 1 and turn, 3 shells, 3 dc in next ch-3 sp.
20: Ch 1 and turn, 2 shells, 3 dc in next ch-3 sp.
21: Ch 1 and turn, 1 shell, 3 dc in next ch-3 sp.
22: Ch 1 and turn, 3 dc in next ch-3 sp, sl st down the side of the point: 1 sl st in top of each dc, 2 sl st on post of each dc (17 sl st), shell in next ch-3 sp.

Repeat Rows 16-22 for the other 5 points, omitting the final shell at the end of the last point.
Then make a row of scallops: Turn, [[skip 1 shell, 6 dc between next two shells, sl st between next two shells] 3 times, 6 dc in tip of next shell, sl st between next two shells, [skip 1 shell, 6 dc between next two shells, sl st between next two shells] 2 times, skip 1 shell, 6 dc between next two shells, sl st in point of shell between the points] 6 times, ending with a sl st in the tip of the last skipped shell. Fasten off.

With right side facing, attach with a sl st in the first st of the foundation ch, [skip 3 sts, 8 dc in next st, skip 3 sts, sl st in next st] 18 times. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Run a cord through open space at top, fasten tassel on each end.
