After seeing tatty’s page, I so wanted to try making a dress. And since she said it really wasn’t so hard, that gave me the courage to try. And it really wasn’t. It was actually very easy, and went a lot quicker than I thought. I didn’t even do much measuring (I didn’t do any swatches) and just winged it because I wanted to finish quickly once I saw I could finish it before the wedding. And it turned out wearable!
8/9/15 - Started with skirt, worked top down. CO 70 stitches loosely on US 10 and did 7 repeats of the original pattern.
8/20/15 - Skirt finished. Picked up 70 stitches along top to work top bottom up in diamond pattern.
I cast on 30 stitches for the sleeves on sizes 7 and worked up to size 10 needles before attaching them to the body and continuing working towards the neck.
8/30/15 - Finished! I just need to block it. But I’ll be away and have to wait till the weekend.
After blocking it and trying it on, I decided I’d like it a little bit longer and crocheted an edging at the bottom.
I’m so happy with how it turned out!! I wore it to my cousin’s wedding (the first wedding I’ve ever been to) and there was not a dress there that I envied. :D I got a lot of compliments from a number of women, and they didn’t even know I had made it. And when they learned I had knit it, they went and got their husbands to show. lol Someone spilled their coffee on it near the end of the evening…but thankfully it’s dark, so I don’t think it shows up. Since it was an outdoor wedding, I wore my dayflower shawl once it got chilly out, and it complemented the dress very well.
I used a little less than one skein. Before adding the crocheted border, it was only about 2/3 of the skein.
