Notes

The lovely Molly of Fairview Knitters gave me this huge bag of beautiful cotton. Molly’s kitchen has some blue and yellow tile, so I made this potholder for her kitchen.

Only later, after blocking, did I realize that the center of the African Flower pattern resembles a Jewish Star of David. The color of the Star armbands that Jews had to wear to identify themselves as Jews during the Nazi regime was yellow. I finished this potholder during the Days of Remembrance, April 9th, 2013. This is my tribute to survivors and a memorial for the victims of the Holocaust. We must remember so that this will never happen again.

Yom HaShoah in Hebrew literally translates as the “Day of (remembrance of) the Holocaust and the Heroism.”
