Notes

I drew the dog, blew the sketch up on a copier, traced the enlargement and then transferred it to the linen with Saral paper. This is my third rug, I’m aiming to make at least 5 (different individual dogs). Maybe 4 is a more realistic goal.

The scale of the dog is life-size-- it would be about a 40lb dog I think.

It is hooked with yarn, a lot of it from a recycling store in Austin, TX (Austin Creative Reuse). I also bought some Brown Sheep Lamb’s Pride online because it comes in a bright white. And some Lettlopi from a little yarn store in Somerville, though I should have used the regular Lopi. And I got a few grays from Argyle Yarn Shop in my neighborhood on Brooklyn before quarantine.

I use a Q-Snap frame.

The first two rugs I made I cut out and whip stitched the edges under, but I am wondering if I can also back them with something. I also wonder about blocking them-- I hooked too closely and the shapes are so irregular that they don’t lie particularly flat.
