Based on an earlier prototype that I designed for Mrs. Brackenreid. Joanna Syrokomla, Murdoch Mysteries costume designer, reimagined the original design for a capelet to fit Julia Ogden. The bottom edge is a widened version of Pachelbel, flowing into rows of eyelets inspired by the Panna Frost Flowers Lace Shawl, and disappearing into improvised shaping and finally yoke decreases calculated with Elizabeth Zimmermann’s percentage system. (No, I didn’t make a lot of notes.)

Joanna also asked for a rectangular blanket to look like the capelet, to use for wrapping the baby. I made the two halves separately and then grafted them together.

The yarn is discontinued (we must have gotten the last of it in Toronto). This was a lot of time to spend with a colour I’ve never liked but it was entirely worthwhile. (Julia’s hat was made from the same yarn by Charlene Seniuk, from the Murdoch costume team.) Always such an honour to knit for a favourite show.
