Notes

I wanted to use cotton fiber yarn for its absorbent in which I needed for coasters. I happened to have the Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton yarns available. However, this yarn was a bit thin. Therefore, I’ve used double strands of yarn for this pattern in order to achieve a substantial size coaster. Each skein would make at least 2 of these coasters when doubling up the strands.

KittyKreationsB (Kat) created a YouTube tutorial video showing how to crochet these cute coffee cup coasters. Kat revised her pattern from Sarah Zimmerman and I revised a little of Sarah’s pattern at the handle as well.

Thanks to Kat and Sarah for this pattern & the tutorial.

In Sarah’s pattern version, she completed the border and then, sl st back a few stitches to create the handle. This created a bulky area.

To give a cleaner look right above the handle, I crocheted the border up to where the top part of the handle began; then, I proceeded to make the handle. After completed the handle, I’m back to where I started it. I continued on finishing the border, and ended with an invisible fasten off, (see last 2 images).

Below is how I revised the pattern in details. Let me know if you don’t understand something.
• Follow the pattern to make the border. Sc up to and include row 12 on the handle side (right side of the cup).
• Begin the handle: ch 8, sl st at the sc of the border on row 5 (do not count the border row), 1 sl st into the sc right below it (row 4, not counting the border row), 13 hdc into the ch-8 loop, sc onto the st at row 13 (st right above ch-8 began).
• Continue on with the rest of the border like this: 1 sc in the next st, 1 sl st in the next st, cut off the yarn, pull tail through and do an invisible fasten off/finish.
Note: You can move the handle up or down to where you want it. The row numbers and the number of sc & sl st will change according to your change.
