Notes

Woohoo! I won the race against time AND I won the public vote for design smilesmilesmile The CM voucher I won helped me buy the yarn I’ve been eyeing for a while… It should make me a cabled sweater. Finally a Tahesha for me?

The race against time… ;)

There are about 8 hours left until the countdown reaches zero and I’ve just sewed in the second sleeve cap. It’s now knitting down to the wrist which should take me about 5 hours - I should make it…

Well, I made it - with 2 hours to spare ;)

Fri 28 Apr 2023

Oops, the moment of truth… I knitted the sleeve cap more or less “pi mal Daumen” as outlined yesterday:

  • 20/5/3/1/1/-1/-1/…
  • after 30 rows I made a guesstimate of how many rows I’d need. With the increase rate of 1 every other row, I’d get far too many sts -> change to increase rate 1 every 4 rows
  • after 70 rows I measured the circumference of the sleeve hole and sleeve-cap-so-far and came to about 29 rows more

I will now connect both body and sleeve with the 12 live underarm sts and knit a bit downwards. I’ll then see if the sleeve cap is alright. I may “really” sew it in or just attach it provisionally…

But first I need to find some DPNs the same size as circ.

Well, I re-read a knitty article on set-in sleeves again, and for the time being, don’t fancy measuring and calculating. I’ll do one sleeve cap and see if I can “wing” it…

  • start with a slightly rounded top - maybe 15/20sts, then plus 5, 3, 1, 1, or something like that
  • knit a bit with +1 every other row
  • see how many rows of the sleeve cap are left to knit filling the hole in the body
  • re-start differently, possibly with some measuring and maths if things don’t look cool

Generally, I’d like to

  • knit the sleeve cap flat
  • sew it in
  • together with the live sts from the underarm knit downwards to the wrist in the round
  • from 2 sources I read the sleeve cap being up to an inch longer than the hole it has to fit in is fine but by no means should it be shorter

I still haven’t really figured out how to knit the set-in sleeve…

Sun 09 Apr 2023

Gee, I finished my 3rd round socks 4 days ago and I’m STILL not knitting on my jumper again as it turns out a lot more figuring out when to start the bust darts than I expected… I first had to figure out the neckline and what to do with the pattern repeats of the front cables. The repeat is pretty long and I don’t want to have these cables going into the ribbing at the neck - sigh!

I wanted to try set-in sleeves as well but I’m not so sure anymore… well, first things first as the sleeve parting comes after the darts.

I think I’ll have no vertical dart increases just decreases once the horizontal dart plus 1cm are done. Nearly, nearly there ;)

And - I’m well prepared to rip it all out again should it not work out ;)

Ha, ha - I have to rip out 8 rds already as per my maths I should have started on the bust darts already ;) Off I go…

Finally, I’m starting on my fourth jumper out of 2/28Nm cashmere smile

Sock Madness is running as well, and I thought I’d be able to start earlier, but for the last three days, I’ve been trying around to make the cable to my liking… I think I’m there and will cast on now!

If SM round 2 goes over the full 2 weeks it would finish on Saturday. I’m hoping to have some time to knit on the body and to wash and let it dry while I’m knitting my round 3 socks. I could then verify the gauge and do some math as I still

  • need to figure out the neckline and with it when to separate for the sleeves, and I
  • need to figure out where and when to start some bust darts, I’d like to try that and have some less positive ease than the other cash sweaters

Big plans, time will tell where that one goes smile

  1. just really, really soft and lovely to knit with and even better to wear it - so totally next-to-skin worthy :)))
