August 24, 2015 - Have the pattern and the yarn… all ready to go, just finishing up another project first but all that yarn to wind…..not to mention knit. We shall see.
September 7, 2015 - Am in the process of knitting this fellow. His “peanut” self is finished.
Knitted the body in the round with the Malabrigo. His night shirt is in the making. I knit a swatch for the Malabrigo worsted and the Berroco Comfort worsted and my gauge for both matched. Oh the foolish things I believed…. am now changing from Berroco Comfort to Malabrigo worsted for night shirt as I found the Berroco far to loose and drapey, even after washing and machine drying.
Going to knit feet, beak etc. while waiting for the Malabrigo to arrive for Nightshirt.
September 10, 2025 - Have his feet finished. They are so cute.
September 12, 2015 - Have finished eye patches, eyelids and am working on teddy.
September 14, 2015 - I keep posting the year in case it takes me a year or longer to finish this project. Knitting on teddy is done. Modified pattern to spread out the increases at beginning.
September 24, 2915 - all knitting is finally done! Blocked the night shirt and that really gave it a nice finish, so I want to block the rest of the pieces. Wish I had decided this before I stuffed himself. Then on to the job of constructing him.
October 4 - Made it! Literally, Winston is fully assembled and has his teddy tucked under his arm and is ready for bed. His teddy even has a necktie with a little bitty tie tack. Many thanks to KlickKat for her constant encouragement throughout this project. Except for the issues with his nightshirt, it was a truly enjoyable and satisfying project. Pictures soon. Still have to weigh left over yarn to figure the amount used. Hope to send him on his way to his new home on the 7th. So many photos guess I was just this thankful to be finished. Knitted everything I could in the round, that worked out very well. Knit his feet modifying the technique Rebecca Danger uses for her monster’s feet, placed all four on a cable after knitting the toes, then decreased in the round from both sides. Stuffed before I closed the second side. Made the nightcap extra long. Sewed the buttons on before attaching the placket because they weren’t flat. Used hand painted eyes ordered from 6060 eyes especially for this project. Blocked but not the owl himself or teddy. That gave a nice difference in look and feel of finished owl. Looking back we are already thinking of what colors to use for the next one. We ordered so much yarn we have enough yarn for everything except his clothes.
