I made this jumper for my dear mama, as a late birthday present. As it’s a proper winter jumper, I wanted to keep few inches of ease to be sure she would be able to add some extra layers of clothing underneath. Therefore I decided to knit the side 39.
I used the Soft Donegal which is an Aran weight, my gauge was slightly off - 16 stitched per 4 inches – but even so I decided to keep going with the size 39. On the plus side I had to use less yarn than what the pattern asked for and I ended up keeping almost one full skein out of the six I bought.

My mother being only 5’3’’, I had to remove a couple of inches of the body length and a couple of inches on each sleeve. Her and I have similar measurements, I am 5’4’’ and 33’’ circumference at bust. As you can see from the photos the jumper has a good length but would have probably been too long if I’ve kept the original dimensions.

Several construction details – curved hem, rolled neckline and vertical stripes on the inside of the sleeves - give to this jumper a lovely professional finish. I found it very enjoyable to knit and was pleased to learn how to manage short rows.
