24/9/12 - These little squares are so much fun to make and the yarn is giving a much better colour transition that I was expecting :o)
25/9/12 I’m going to have to ration myself to only workling on this project after I’ve completed at laest 2 rows of my other WIP afghan, otherwise I’ll have several of these blankets and the other will never get done. I can see that this pattern could become addictive!
28/9/12 - just finished off my first ball and I get 31 squares, at approximately 3” square.
6/10/12 - 70 squares now complete.
10/10/12 - 100 squares complete. Yay!
14/10/12 - 120
16/10/12 -150
2110/12 - 180 (I think! Might have lost count somewhere along the line).
26/10/12 - 210
28/10/12 230- just 20 more to go, oh and a load of ends to sew in!
2/11/12 - 255 squares completed and the final layout of 15x17 squares decided on. Just the sewing up to do now. I HATE sewing squares together with a passion :(
8/11/12 - Squares are now all sewn up horizontally, just the verticle seams to go, and maybe a single round of puff stitch as a border. I have to say I’m a little in love with this blanket already! <3
11/11/12 - seams all sewn and ends tucked in.Just a border to go woohoo!
12/11/12 - after playing with lots of different types of edging last night I’ve decided to leave it unedged. Puff stitches looked good on the front, but not so nice on the back, and as this blanket looks just as nice on the reverse as it does from the front I didn’t want to spoil it. Shells were OK is but some how spoliled how it looks in relief, so I’m leaving it un edged. Photo’s to follow just as soon as I can take them in day light (probably Thursday) as artificial light just doesn’t capture the shading properly.
Sooooo final thoughts, a well written, well explained pattern with lots of useful pictures (not just put in for the sake of it or to bump up the price, as in some patterns I’ve bought reciently). Fun suares that are easy to make and memorise. This was my first post stitch pattern and I managed it without any problems. It is a bit of a wool eater though. Normally 800g will make me a bed sized blanket, but using every scrap of my yarn for squares and using some old stashed stuff to sew it up with has left me with more of a throw than a blanket. Not a bad thing though beacuse this will take pride of place on my sofa - I LOVE the finished piece. Sewing up does take a long time, but that was expected. I matress stitched them together rather than whip stitched and that gave a less visible seam. All in all I’m very pleased with how this has turned out. Who says that blankets crocheted out of squares had to be grannyish - this blanket certainly disproves that theory!
