After the Spring Showers debacle, I’m ready to get this going. Jesus, take the needles!
Kid reported her overbust measurement as 45.5”.

I got the collar portion done and the US6 seemed a little small. I’m pretty sure the Aran yarn could stand up on its own at that gauge. Going up to a US8 and knitting the next size down to compensate.
*Later*
The needle change seems good. I may do the ribbing on a US7 when I make mine but it’s not worth starting again.
Cable cast on 112 sts and k2tog to join in the round. Next time, I’ll probably just stick with the long tail since it didn’t save any time or look any better. My preference is always a tubular cast on but I’m not sure how that works with a steek.
Subbed German short rows for the w&t. I hate w&t.

So I totally didn’t carry the second colur on the single colour rows and didn’t alternate in those steek sections…I think it’ll be easier to start over. I’m going to do the ribbing with the a US6 and change to a 7 for the rest of the body.
Long tail cast on (finally got the purl side on the inside!) 112 sts, k2tog to join in the round.

I didn’t choose the right size for positive ease. My god, sweater knitting is so much starting over for me. THIS IS THE ONE, I SWEAR TO GOD.
Italian tubular cast on 116 sts on US6; k2tog to join in the round; switched to US7 after the ribbing.

I did an extra round of ribbing since the US6 finished at only .75” and the pattern says “about an inch”. Switched to US7 for the body, starting with the short rows.

Halfway through the yoke! I am so god damned slow at colourwork.
03-04-2019
Finished the yoke finally! OMG, I guess I forgot that I don’t love colour work. What is my problem?! I’ll be waiting to knit mine ‘til later in the year.
03-05-2019
Separated for the sleeves and body and my colour work tension is not great; pretty uneven and a little tight in places. Ugh, I hope it’ll get better with a block but deep down, I know better.
03-12-2019
Finished the body at 70 rounds (about .25” past the recommended 10”) and will follow this with 11 rounds of ribbing to finish. Maybe I will get this done by Kid’s birthday!
*Later* I just need sleeves, button bands, and THE STEEK. Christy said she’d help me do the sewing machine reinforcement since I don’t know enough to be sure it won’t unravel. Getting close!
03-23-2019
I sleeved the shit outta this bitch! Just need to secure the steek this week with Christy and knit up the button bands. So close!

The steek turned out great and I banded it yesterday and today. However, I need to cover the raw edges with some grosgrain ribbon (ordered some black 5/8” from Amazon but I guess I’ll have to hand sew it? ). We decided to go with two whole bands and add snaps with decorative buttons on the other side. I’ll be doing the same on mine.
It’s ready for a quick wash and then gifting tomorrow!

Many moons later, there are snaps! Man, those fuckers are ingenious. I will probably never use a real button again.
