Started this to console myself over a project my cat decided to use as a midnight snack. I’m alternating rows in two different Colourmart 4-ply-weight-equivalent cashmere yarns. Both are dark plum/purple but not the same, so there’s faint striping.

Am I crazy to knit this with cashmere still tight and crunchy with machine oil? I won’t know how big it really is until I’ve soaked and washed it a couple times, then blocked it. Right now it has a meshy, lacy sheerness to it. It’s feather-light and a tiny bit crispy. How will it be after blocking? It’s good cashmere--from Johnstons of Elgin--so hopefully it will blossom well.

This makes for a good TV-watching project and something semi-easy to do while talking to people. I haven’t spent a lot of time on it yet, but I’m up to 22 rows of the Increase section. I’m knitting it with very dark yarn on a white (Prym) needle, so I don’t always need my reading glasses either.

Up to 33 repeats of Increase section but something went wonky somewhere, and I’m short one stitch. I suspect I accidentally knit two together somewhere, since I am knitting with something akin to sewing thread. Instead of searching forever, I might just add another row to get the right stitch count or maybe do two increase stitches in a single row.

I am 46/70 of the way through the increase section.

I’m up to 50 reps in the Increase section. It’s currently 10” on the vertical side, 17” on the needle cord, and 20” on the other diagonal. Dusting off my old Algebra skills, I’m calculating the final width of the wrap (the bit on the needles) will be roughly 24”. We’ll see.
Later on 11/27: Found some more time to knit, and now I’m up to 54 repeats. Should be about 112 stitches on the needle, but I forgot to count before putting it away.

Note to self: If you pull too hard on yarn this thin, you will feel a terrible pop. This means that somewhere or another, a thread has broken.
Urg. The vertical side of this scarf is a little too tight toward the bottom because I wasn’t leaving enough slack in my slip stitch. I pulled on it like a dummy and felt something let go. Barely breathing, barely moving, I lifted the scarf toward me in the last light of day and peered at the tiny, dark threads along that edge. I still don’t know if I stoppered the dam or not, but I saw two loops sticking out right by the tail of the second color, and so I wove in that tail all around the danger zone, including through those two loops. Not perfect or pretty, but hopefully effective. I can see nothing else loose, but who knows. I’m almost 20% finished with this and don’t want to rip back and start over.

I’m at 60 repeats of the Increase section (124 stitches). It’s taking longer per row as they get wider.

67 repeats--not a lot of knitting time lately

I finished the Increase section, and maybe I counted wrong because I have 145 stitches??? Oh well.

I’ve been scattering myself between projects, but I’m now about 3 inches into the straightaway on this scarf, and it’s about 21-22 inches wide, very lightly stretched (barely unwrinkled).
I’m astounded at how tiny the yarn is, coming back from a DK project. I’ve probably said it before, but for a light fingering, this reads more like sewing thread.

’Tis July, and knitting will have to take a back seat for the month. Not only is it time for Camp NaNoWriMo (a 30-day writing challenge), but I’ve enrolled in an online proofreading course to brush up on my skills so I can begin working again after an 18-year sabbatical from paid employment to raise my kids. I’ll be back to knitting again in August.
I’ve been fiddling with this project on and off. I still only have maybe 8-9 inches done of the middle section. Like knitting with sewing thread.
