Using mystery cones of laceweight rayon and a bit of a slubby cotton/linen/rayon blend.

MC dark brown; cc1 is green; cc2 is green; cc3 is gold; cc4 is natural;

My first patchwork square is blocking at 6” x 6”. Wondering if it will shrink back an bit after drying. I could stretch it less, but it is hard to get down to a 12 cm square.

06-20-2024

I am puzzled by the difference in the designer’s project’s patchwork square placement and the arrangement of the squares that appears in the pattern and in the projects of most of the testers. Will ask in her Rav group.

ETA: she gave me a super quick reply! Answer is that the assembled patchwork square that makes the front is just rotated. So I can choose which look when I get there.

I was puzzled as to why the lace used the bigger needles and the colorwork used the smaller needles (usually people go up a size for colorwork?), so now I am wondering if I might get closer to a 12 cm square if I knit the lace on the smaller needles and the colorwork on the bigger? I might make a square to see. ETA: ah, I forgot the increase row to set up the colorwork. So that explains the smaller needles.

06-21-2024

So my first square using the needle sizes suggested by pattern got me a beautiful, dry 6-inch square. I re-wet it and scrunched it and got to 5.25”.

I am going to make next one on size 0 needles and see if I can get to 4.75”/12 cm.

06-22-2024

Victory! Used size 0/2mm needles for both lace and colorwork and got my 12cm square!

Slippery rayon on tiny needles meant that I had to restart the square again after first 12 rows because needle fell out and I had trouble re-making stitches. So a firm grip and reading glasses required for this project.

In picking up and knitting to join the patchwork squares, I found it difficult to pick up the correct number of stitches, so I just did my best and then corrected the count on the next row by adding or decreasing stitches. Picking up 47 from a cast-on edge of 25 is tricky!

07-06-2024

Blocking the last of the 12 patchwork squares. Have joined two rows together. One more row and then on to the columns.

07-07-2024

Did I just finish all the columns and then find a twist? Yes. Yes, I did. Ribbit. frog

07-07-2024

Fixed. Onto rows tomorrow.

07-08-2024

One patchwork row assembly done! It takes enough concentration that I think I will do only one a day.

07-09-2024

Yahoo! Patchwork assembled.

07-10-2024

Misread chart c and didn’t do the neck edge on left side correctly. Did the right side correctly. So do I rip out and redo left side? Most knitters would, but I am not very inclined. It looks good enough…

Will sleep on it.

07-18-2024

Need to use 2.5mm needles for sleeves because I don’t have smaller circulars than those.

07-22-2024

On the lace portion of right sleeve.

07-24-2024

One sleeve done, one to go!

07-26-2024

I think there might be an error in pattern for left sleeve after working chart D.

Pattern says to remove BORm and slip stitches from RN to LN (just like in right sleeve) but to get the start of round in the same place under arm as right sleeve, I slipped LN to RN.

I think what she calls Sunday Short Rows are what I call Japanese Short Rows?
