Notes

I wanted a shaped, fitted jacket with princess lines that would echo the look of the old, pieced fishermen’s jackets from Japan in several shades of indigo. The jacket was knit entirely in the round. The front panel motif was taken from a weaving draft; I made up the side panel motif; and the sleeve has a traditional ikat/sashiko pattern. The sleeves were knit in the Armenian knitting mode to capture the look of ikat.
I used Meg Swansen’s purl-when-you-can technique for the hem and the cuffs.
