I modified the pattern to make a cowl, the hat was to big for my daughter.

Cast on 70 leaving a long tail for sewing up seam.

Row 1: K2, P2 across.
Row 2: P2, K2 across.

Knit rows 1 and 2 three times (6 rows total).

Row 1: Knit across.
Row 2: Purl across.
Row 3: Knit across.
Row 4: Purl across.
Rows 5 to 8: Knit across.

Knit rows 1 through 8 five times.
Knit 10 rows
Row 1: K2, P2 across.
Row 2: P2, K2 across.

Knit rows 1 and 2 three times (6 rows total)
Bind off.
