Notes

I made a reversible hat by casting on provisionally, then doing a 2x2 twisted rib for a little over an inch. The “nice” side was worked in the “British Checks” chart found in The Knitting Man(ual) by Sparklund. The “naughty” side was worked in the “Fornicating Reindeer Chart” with minor modifications to avoid carrying yarn across back over too many stitches. Since the hat is double sided, I did carry yarn over more than 5 stitches at times because the wrong side would be hidden between the two sides of the hat.

UPDATED TO ADD: (14-Nov-2010) I snipped a stitch between the hats and carefully took out the ribbing on the naughty side and the entire “nice” side. The hat was way too warm, since it was double thick and stranded. It also was a little small for P. So I knit the ribbing for the naughty side down from the main body of the hat in K3P1, and then I did an I-Cord Bind Off. It looks fantastic, and it was a great learning experience. I now understand way more about how knitting works and I believe EZ when she says knitting will not immediately unravel when cut.

UPDATED TO ADD (Dec. 14. 2010): The I-cord bind off was too tight, so I took that out and then did Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy bind off. That did the trick. Now he says the bottom of the hat is itchy. I have to agree. Stay tuned for more updates. Perhaps a fleece lining?

UPDATED TO ADD (Jan. 19. 2013): Finally added the lining. Much better!!!
