Mom asked for a knit toy to take to my cousin’s baby shower, unfortunately the latest spares are real wool, (the first wool critters I’ve made), and she wants acrylic. She thought my last noodle was very cute so requested one of those in mauve. So, I’ve owned this pattern for ages without making it, but now, I’ll be making 2 in a week.
This yarn is a bit thicker than the last so the 3.75mm needles are working fine this time, but it will be large again. Trying a variegated this time, with solid markings.
May 7:
Ugh, I only have 1 eye left, and all the noses that I have are slightly too big and slightly too small. To justify the shipping and to try, yet again, to have a selection that won’t cause these problems in the future, I’ve spent a small fortune on eyes and noses and can only cross my fingers that they get here soon. So I can get this big guy finished.
May 24:
the eyes arrived just in time to get this guy put together in time for the shower. He was quite popular, Mom loved him, she spent all night & morning trying to come up with a name for him. Best she came up with was Skippy. I’d say she’s not very original, but we already knew that. She named my little sister “Kathryn Marie” after naming my late sister “Mary” and me “Karen”, which We later learned to be the Norwegian version of “Kathryn”. We can’t tease her about it too much any more since we BOTH married guys named “Rob”, at least she didn’t marry my Rob’s twin. That would have been really bad!
Any way… Puppy is done… He’s pretty cute. He was a little squirmy and impatient during final assembly, as evidenced by the last photo.
Mom wrapped him so that as you look in the gift bag you can see just the tips of his ears, as you start to move the tissue he peers up at you, similar to one of the photos. It was pretty cute, good effect!
for those concerned about plastic eyes on a baby toy….
- Mom was warned so he’ll probably be a shelf-toy, not a play toy, but in case I’m wrong…
- The knit is very tight and the eyes & nose are very large so pull-through should be impossible.
- Besides the visible felt behind the eyes, the eyes & nose are also backed with larger pieces of felt on the inside.
- The back of the eye, post, felt and washer are coated in a rubbery glue for extra security, reduced risk of breakage etc.
