This was a special request by my nephew, but i think my sister put him up to it; she knows i have a harder time saying no to the kid and the dog!
My first attempt at a sweater for my sister’s Yorkie-Poo. My first attempt at a sweater of any kind really. While knitting it on the bus and such, I was surprised by how many people knew exactly what it was and by how they raved over the colours. In fairness, the colours are much better in real life, but I still didn’t expect them to generate so much interest.
The pattern “generator” wasn’t too bad in helping me get a good fit, but there were a few parts that didn’t work out. For instance, it took way too many rows to increase from collar stitches to full chest diameter. Because of this, the front portion is too long, requiring the collar to be folded down like a turtle neck. Also, since I measured my final length from the collar, it makes it about 1-2 inches short over the belly and about 3-4 inches short over the back & bum.
The position of the leg holes is a little awkward too. But I’m not sure how to fix that without completely rewriting the pattern.
With the exception of these details, it fits pretty well, but I struggled a little to get it on him. I don’t know if that means it needs to by baggier to get it on & off; if he was just too wound-up to be trying it that night (it was his first Halloween); or perhaps a little of both. He’s comfortable having his other sweater, and his h’ween costume put on & off, and he was comfortable once it was on, but this was much more struggle to get on.
I took notes, photos & measurements so I might take another stab at it after Christmas. Or try another pattern, with these calculations as a guide. I like the idea of trying a little hoodie.
