The cowl features a simple lacy stitch with moss stitch borders which assist the cowl in sitting flat (ie, not rolling up). It requires one skein (100 grams) of Malabrigo Arroyo. it is a light and comfortable garment to wear. The pattern can be made with any substituted Sport/5ply yarn of similar weight and texture.

You can make it larger by using 2 skeins (200 grams) of Arroyo and wearing it doubled. If using more than one skein be sure to purchase matching dye lots at the outset as dye lots can vary greatly.

I have made a feature of the join by using 3 needle bind off or you could make it seamless by using kitchener stitch :-)

April 2013 I started the project with half a skein of Malabrigo Arroyo in Archangel and then ordered another skein when it ran out, only to find that the new one was very purple in comparison. So I decided to continue with the new skein and make the cowl “two-toned”. Moral of the story is always purchase enough yarn in the same dye lot at the outset of a project. :-)

Because the colours were so contrasting - one with a lot of orange and one with a lot of purple - I decided to make the join a feature, using 3 needle bind off because the join between the colours was so obvious anyway. I named this design the “Appaloosa” because of the two-toned dappled halves.

This cowl is light and lacy to wear. :-)
