Notes

Summary: Modified increases/decreases. Placed 4 markers, instead of 8. Performed 2 increases/decreases (left and right leaning) at each marker. This hat’s double layer of stockinette fabric provides superior warmth. Amount of fingering yarn used was 110g.

My husband liked my silver linings hat so much, that he requested that I make one for him. I altered the increases/decreases to make the hat look more rustic/basic.

Yarn

JaggerSpun/Mousam Falls sock yarn is sold at LYSs in 100g hanks. I purchased project yarn for this hat from vendor who winds the number of ounces yarn ordered from a cone into a cake. This is a great consideration because this hat requires 110g of fingering yarn. I ordered 5 ounces to be safe, but only used 3.3.

Details

Cast on using disappearing loop method: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRqhHaRR00E It’s sort of a magic circle (customarily done in crochet) for knitting.

mods for increases:

  • Round 3: (K1, PM, M1R, K1, M1L) to end of round.
  • Odd rows: (K to marker, SM, M1R, K1, M1L) to end of round.

mods for decreases:

  • Odd rows: (K to 2 stitches before marker, SSK, SM, K2tog) to end of round.
  • Even rows: Knit.
  • Keep knitting odd and even rows until 8 sts remain. Follow pattern for bind off.

finishing:

  • Leave hat in elongated, capsule form.
  • Soak in wool wash for an hour.
  • Gently press out excess water between 2 towels.
  • Superwash wool yarn:Machine dry, low heat setting. Regular wool yarn: block and air dry.
  • Tuck one end of hat inside the other.

Having no knit st between the hat decreases resulted in an “x” pattern.
