Using leftovers from my Marshland Sweater.

For my first attempt, I used the Brioche Starter hat pattern instructions only, but changed the CO number (like the majority of the projects posted). Casted on 80 sts; added lifeline after 1” of knitting on US 2.5 needles and changed to US 4 needles. Tried hat on when work measured 4” from CO edge; it was loose. Ripped back to lifeline and changed to US 3 needles. At decreases, I tried hat on. Though the fit was OK, I wasn’t all that pleased with the cast on method and color choices, so I frogged the project.

For my second act, I used a lighter purple and combined features from Daniel’s Hat & Brioche Starter hat patterns. I used the recommended stitch counts for an adult medium, needle sizes, and brim from Daniel’s Hat and used 2 color brioche for body and crown decreases from the Brioche Starter hat.

The 2x2 ribbing did not flow into the brioche nicely; re-worked transition several times, but failed improvement. The fold hides this. Although I like the brim of the Daniel Hat pattern, I prefer the brioche on smaller needles as in the Brioche Starter Hat pattern.
