Progress Notes

• Had to begin differently since I am not using the recommended yarn. My goal was to have the light and black sections of this yarn pool in columns. I CO 150 provisional stitches onto a circular needle using lace weight cotton thread and a crochet hook. I marked off 1 circumference length of yarn from the original hank form and knitted it on to the provisional stitches (see note). One hank length = 134 sts. I joined to knit in the round, knit a few rounds, and the color distribution stayed true to the first round.
• I skipped the purl folding ridge. When work was 3” long, I picked up the right leg of each stitch knit into the provisional CO with another circular needle, then removed crochet thread. I folded the work, brought the provisional CO sts behind the live sts, then knit stitches together from front and back needles for the entire round to create the hemmed brim.
• Started crown closure when fabric measured 8.5” from brim edge to needle cord.
• Though 4 columns of pooling is ideal for this pattern (my hat has 6 columns), I’m happy that this design’s crown does not interrupt the pooling as it did in a self-designed watch cap I made last year.

Note:The 3 black sections within the circumference of this yarn’s hank are not of equal length. Therefore, the colors will not pool in columns if one round does not use the distance of the hank’s circumference.
