Notes
  • Casted on this project while I was a passenger princess on a US Interstate Highway. rolling_on_the_floor_laughing
  • Used stitch count for adult L with smaller needles. Result was an adult M fit.
  • After 2 brioche repeats in body, I realized there was not enough contrast between the mossy rocks and bayou colorways. Frogged.
  • Re-started with obsidian and graphite colorways. Used US 6 needles for combination ribbing and a few inches of brioche. I thought the brioche looked sloppy, so I ripped back to ribbing and re-started brioche section with US 5 needles; looked much better.
  • I was concerned about the holes the brkyobrk increases were creating. I could not correct them in the same manner as bobbles or stacked stitches because these increases were on top of each other, not staggered. I temporarily switched from 16” circs to magic loop when brioche was 4”. The increase holes disappeared when I placed the hat on my head and tension was being applied horizontally. The holes grew larger when I applied vertical tension.
  • Although I followed pattern instructions to knit highway stitches loosely, I wish I had knit them looser. They do not stretch like the brioche section.
  • I love how the k/p rib sequence flows into the brioche. My Daniel Hat did not do this.

How to wrap last stitch after turning brim inside out (start at 1:40) -- This method is used with Shetland brims and I have successfully used it several times.

Here is another way to try to eliminate gap after turning brim inside out.
