First attempt: Wanted to knit a simple hat, to show off this gorgeous yarn, while bouncing up and down on an interstate highway, in a work truck. I CO 96 sts with a provisional tubular CO. I originally planned a 1x1 ribbed brim and stockinette body, but continued the ribbing once I noticed the interesting pooling.
Second attempt: After 6-7”, I ripped back and restarted because pooling columns in folded brim were way out of line with pooling columns in hat body. I assumed this was because I used a provisional tubular cast on with cotton crochet thread. This CO is tight and has no give. (But it is a favorite CO of mine because the provisional thread prevents the edge from fraying while the rest of the hat is being worked.) One can see how the pooling migrated to the left as the stitches loosened. (Also one can see the point at which a rest stop break was taken near the top of the work. ) I casted on 96 sts in this second attempt with a stretchy, German twisted CO. I knit 1x1 rib to a length of 10.5”. I worked a rapid crown decrease similar to the one used in Fisherman’s Rib Beanie. 16 sts remained on the needles and were cinched according to the method I described in my Spur Hat.
