Notes
  • Added a round of k1, p1 after long tail CO using C1, then K1 MC, P1 C1 for 8 rounds.
  • Added name to falling snow motif
  • Used tree motif from Fresh Pine.
  • Substituted train going in opposite direction for snowflake motif.
  • I struggled with the look of the heel. (1) First attempt: I originally substituted a short row heel over (58 sts). This did not look so good so I ripped back to the heel. (2) Second attempt: Re-worked heel per pattern instructions. It still had too much bulk and flimsiness. (3) Third attempt: Re-worked heel as written until there were 38 stitches on each magic loop needle. Then worked decreases every round. This result was better than the first 2 attempt, but I still did not like the heel. (4) Fourth attempt: Worked afterthought heel with decreases in every round until 16 sts (8 on each magic loop needle) remained; closed with Finchley graft. (5) 5th attempt: Worked as 4th attempt but used left and right leaning double creases until I reached a total of 44 sts (22 sts on each magic loop needle). Closed with Kitchner stitch. I finally liked the heel!
  • Found great afterthought heel method (thought to have been developed by Cat Bordhi) where 2 stitches are picked up before and after heel opening (in the same row, not in the ditches) to eliminate holes.
  • Toe: First attempt: worked star toe; was way too long. Second attempt: worked 4 point decrease toe per pattern instructions. This toe is a little short. Third attempt: Worked as 2nd attempt but added additional plain rounds between the first few decrease rounds.
  • The Hollyberry coloraway (lot 7C3728) bled into soaking water, but did not appear to affect the color of the cream colorway.
  • Lining: I used the designer’s tutorial for machine sewing in the lining, but I used a zipper presser foot and right needle position. I have a heavy duty machine; it went right over the i-cords no problem. Also used a white top thread to match the lining and burgundy bobbin thread to match C1 edge.
