Double-stranding the Cleckheaton 8ply, which (theoretically) gives me a 15.4 stitches per 10cm.
Used 5mm needles for brim & body, 4mm for the ribbing.
My head is a bit smaller than what the ‘small’ hat size is for, so this should work in my favour.
Casting on the small size. Lets see what happens.
Modifications
Crown Cable Pattern Round 1:
Shifted the ‘start’ of the round over 3 stitches, instead of 2.
Eliminated the decreases. Already had 70 stitches!
Changed the placement of the cables to have the one in front centered properly:
P5, K6, P6, K6, P6, K6, P5, K6, P6, K6, P6, K6
(Only 2 sets of P5 needed.)
Got to the end of Round 3 of the Crown Cable part, and realized that moving the ‘start’ over 3 stitches by knitting should have been by slipping, because those three were jogged up one round. So at the end of R3, I slipped those 3 stitches, and went on to R4.
R 22: Need to reduce by 10 stitches, in purl sets only.
So, for the 1st P5; P2TogTBL, P3. 2nd P5; P3, P2Tog,
For the P6s, P2TogTBL, P2, P2Tog
In spite of the different notation, it appears that the
cable sets are the same in this round as in previous cable rounds.
(The notation is reversed, but the pics & chart indicate
no change.)
It fits, though it’s a bit low, covers the tops of the ears and is a slightly uncomfortable pressure on them. Might change with a few washings.
Yarn has body, so have not put in any interfacing in the brim.
