Pics
First two pics are of the piece on the mannequin at my LYS, Yarnivore (SA, TX). You can see the piece drapes really well.
Second two pics are of the piece draped across a barstool - you can see the sheerness of the piece with it against a wall and then with the sun shining through it.
Fifth pic is the piece draped across the steps - this is the magic of mohair, it looks solid in this light (altho you can see a little of the stair riser glowing through) but it is in fact filled with lots of air pockets.
Finished piece has lots of luster and is light (a bonus for those of us who aren’t strong enough for heavy cardigans) and warm - toasty even. :)
Sep 2013
Working on a huge pile of UFOs, from before I went back to school (2011), and picked up this one first. It needed to be edged and blocked, so moved quickly. It’s all stockinette, so an easy, easy first project. Using DB’s Angel mohair, I know it will be warm, even with the very open stitch construction, because all those mohair fibers trap body heat.
I chose the pattern for its ease of use, not for difficulty (I normally work on big, advanced lace projects), it is straightforward enough for a beginner. This yarn weight can be tricky - I wouldn’t work with it unless you consider yourself a practiced beginner - but it’s easy on the hands and the combo of the yarn & pattern would be a good first lace-weight project.
