I saw a stitch pattern on Pinterest and thought it would look lovely as a baby blanket. We just got some new yarn in (squirrel!) and I combined the Sarasota cotton/acrylic with a white from North Shore.

The rainbow version in the picture has 14 hearts across (7x14+1), for a total of 99 stitches (You will also need 3 more stitches for the foundation chain.)

My rainbow version used 660 yards of a main color (white) and about 300-350 yards of contrast color (see list for color numbers).

About the yarn: Both are Cascade yarns, value priced. North Shore is 100% acrylic but behaves like a mercerized cotton. It has a great texture and shine to it. Sarasota is 60% cotton/40% acrylic and a pretty heathered texture. Both are machine washable with Sarasota tumble dry cool, North Shore tumble dry warm.
